The Czech Feminist Movement
by Kirstie Ratzer-Farley
The purpose of this project was to research the Czech Republic’s feminist movement and discover how the government, both past and present, influenced and shaped their movement. Research also demonstrated how the media covered the movement and its influence on the public attitude towards the Czech females and gender roles. The influence of communism was a major factor in defining gender roles and inequality between the two sexes. The Czech movement is more about the individual freedoms of women versus American women advancing the political freedoms. Czech women are concerned about employment opportunities and job discrimination, as well as gender roles within the home and outside in the community. Both negative portrayals of the women’s movement, and the lack of real support from the public and government are some of the current challenges that Czech movement encounters.
